Ultrasonic cleaning uses cavitation bubbles caused by high-frequency pressure (sound waves) to agitate the liquid. Agitation exerts significant force on contaminants that adhere to substrates such as metals, plastics, glass, rubber, and ceramics. This action also penetrates blind holes, cracks, and recesses. The goal is to completely remove all traces of contaminants that are tightly adhered to or embedded in solid surfaces. Whether water or solvents can be used depends on the type of contamination and the workpiece. Contaminants can include dust, dirt, oil, pigments, rust, grease, algae, fungi, bacteria, limescale, polishes, fluxes, fingerprints, soot and release agents, biological soils, and more. Never place objects on the bottom of the unit during cleaning as this will prevent cavitation from occurring on objects that are not in contact with the solvent.
